Mash Tun Manifold Slits.....how many and how big?

Post by BritishBelgianTwst » Wed Dec 10, 2008 8:44 am

Hi all,

I've just finished the manifold for my coolbox mash tun and was wondering from your experience how many slits I need to cut into it and the size of them? I was thinking the more the merrier but wasn't sure about the best size - too small and I may get a stuck mash, too big and I think I'll get too much crap going through.

Thanks for your advice - I've never done a mash in my life so it's all theory for the moment.

Thanks,

Paul
Drinking: Corny 1 - some beer
Corny 2 - some more beer
Bottled - a few different beers
Planning: TC

Width of a hacksaw blade, approx 1cm apart and cut halfaway through should do you. Mines like this and Iv never had a stuck mash - touchwood!!

Hi

I have made a few over the years, some better than others. I find that slits cut with a junior hacksaw(stress junior, I have found full size hacksaw blades produce a slit that is to wide) work fine spaced about 10 to 15mm.

I'm assuming you meant 0.7cm or 7mm? :D
