Copper finings?

Post by Robdog » Sun Dec 14, 2008 4:37 pm

Im not surwe what these are or when i have to add etc.

I use Protofolc tabs in my beer and im not sure if that will be sufficient to clear it. I also have here a packet of Youngs Beer Finings. Its like a sachet of liquid gel stuff.

Ok thanks Chris. Is it worth using both?

Im not to concerned about thisn Gail Porter as its a Porter anyway so i wont be able to tell the difference but im going to do an ale or bitter in the week so id like it a bit clearer.

Ill use protofloc with the ale but should i add finings aswell? It says on the pack to add after fermentation has stopped then leave for 2 days before bottling/kegging.

Using Whirlfloc only (similar to Protofloc) I've had brews that were crystal clear, indeed I am drinking one of them now.

I have never used any finings whatsoever. Why add more possibilities to ruin a brew when it's just not needed? :) Ignore the Grolsch glass, it's Summer Lightning that I mixed the hops up on (switched the quantities by accident). Still a fantastic brew and I'd say my best to date. :)

I dont think ill bother with finings and just keep using the Protafloc.

If there not very good quality anyway i dont see the point in using them plus if i have to keg forst then wait to see if it clears before adding i just think thats another possibility of infection as i would have to open the barrel again.
