King Keg pressure dropping

Post by Hogarth » Thu Jan 01, 2009 4:51 pm

Happy New Year!

In my King Keg there's a flattish 40 pints of London Pride. I'm trying to fizz it up by keeping the pressure at 10PSI for a while. Problem is, the pressure keeps dropping. Overnight for example it dropped from 10 to 6 PSI. The question is, is there a leak, or might the drop in pressure be explained by the beer absorbing the CO2? The keg is full, so the headspace is relatively small, and the beer's quite chilly too, at about 8°C. What do people think -- should I be getting out the puncture repair kit or is this Nature taking its course?

When did You keg the beer?

Are the seals in good condition?

Try applying some silicone grease to the lid seal and don't be tempted to overtighten the lid seal as I found it tended to distort and leak if I overtightened it.

If You only recently kegged it then at 8C it will absorb quite a bit of CO2 before equilibrium
is reached for the pressure You require.

PS happy new year

I had the same thing happen on my last brew. Turns out that I had overtightned previously which had wore a dent in the large rubber seal in the lid. I took it out and boiled it in water which made it go back into shape and its fine now.
