Quickie about kegs and cloudiness

Post by ianmagson » Fri Jan 02, 2009 10:30 pm

Should I make sure my beer is completely clear before I Keg it?
Because I haven't!
Will it clear in the keg or stay cloudy?
Cheers

Chances are it will clear and be a very tasty brew.

What was the OG/original gravity and FG/final gravity when it was kegged.

OG was 1.069
FG 1.010.(twas my 1st AG, a Leffe Blonde clone, tastes too bitter though!)

The bitterness will mellow with time.

I've had brews that were mouth puckering one day and beautiful a couple of days later.

Take a sample after a few days and see what you think.

When You feel it's ready to drink do just that!

You didn't say what type of keg but I find with my cornie kegs that the first couple of pints are cloudy but the beer usualy shines after that. The diptube in these kegs picks up the beer from the bottom so any sediment that's settled gets picked up in the first couple of pints but despite looking cloudy that doesn't stop them being supped. :) First couple of kegs I got I angled the diptube away from the bottom-middle of the keg but simply haven't bothered doing that with the rest of the kegs. Really don't mind the first couple being cloudy knowing full well that the rest of the keg will be nice and clear. :)

Oh and I don't even secondary the beer, I leave it in the primary for 8-10 days and just keg it.

I use cornies.
Never sure whether to use finings or not. I did buy some but didn't use them in the end.
My problem is the WAIT :x can never wait quite long enough before having a taster, then another.....

I don't use finings and still get lovely, clear beer. :) I think going up from a 60 minute to a 90 minute boil made a vast difference in my case though.

Funny you said that, I'm going to change to 90mins next brew most AG recipes seem to favour that. I have Palmers 'How to Brew' and it reccommends 60 min boil time, but it seems to be in the 'Extract' section. There is nothing about boiling in the AG section. Wierd :?
