Hi all,
Popped down to my local homebrew shop to pick up some ingredients for a Honey Blonde Ale. Asked for Safale 04 yeast and she said she'd 'never erd of it'. Wasn't that surprised as in the past, she'd never heard of dextrose. Anyways... all she had was Young's Ale Yeast and charged me £1.40. Is it any good?
I have an Irish Red ale fermenting at the min and plan to rack it tomorrow. Could I instead use some of the yeast cake (Safale 04) from that? Have been told in the past that this is only possible if you plan to brew a similar or darker coloured beer. Obviously the Blonde is a lot lighter than an Irish Red.
Any thoughts?
Cheers

I can't believe people with such little knowledge start homebrew shops
If its the stuff that comes in a tub, I wouldn't use it - its pretty awful... I was sold a tub of it when I first started - it does occasionally get used in TCs and ginger beers but I wouldn't use it in a beer. How soon are you brewing? I ordered 8 sachets of yeast from hop and grape a few weeks ago, and postage was only £1.30 and it arrived in a couple of days.

Hey Tom,
Cheers for the reply. I'm clutching at straws now. Trying to reculture yeast from the bottom of 3 bottles of homebrew to make a starter. Problem is... only had around 200ml of wort in my freezer so prob not enough!
