you could try putting the end of the pipe straight onto the top of the sparger and then using a cable tie to tight seal it?

I hope it all goes well for you Prolix.

Recipe looks a little bitter. I'd drop the first load of hops down to about 55g rather than 85g for a 5 gallons batch.

bought a hoselock connector and drilled the hole wide enough to take a bit of syphon tube under compression that now fits snug on the sparger.

Oh don't go to lakeside on a saturday people are killing each other to get in and out.

the day is going with incident the mash stuck so i eventually gave up and poured it into my boiler as it has a hop strainer water pipe thing I made and sparged there, that was fun.

got 23l off the sparge that had a sg of 58 at 24c no idea if that is any good.

then I put the sweet wort into a container to clean the boiler then put the wort back to boil, my boiler is ssslllllooooowwww any way decided I could start cleaning up some of the mess like the hop strainer.... damn that wort was hot took three attempts and lots of explictatives but got it on, arm is now a pale red, next time I might transfer the wort first.

Stress levels were building so decided to grab some TC it is wonderful stuff completely relaxed now.

Have photos of things i'll try to put up got to go see if the boiler is still an oximoron.

Had a mash bag but is only half length of bucket and did not want to fiddle with trying to tie it more things to go wrong.

What do you do with spent mash?

if you know any body with cattle, they eat it, so do pigs, but then again pigs will eat anything.

40 odd years ago when my Dad worked at Castle Eden Brewery the farmers would come in trailers and pay for it.

I give my spent hops and grain to my Dad and it goes into the compost bin. Seems a shame to chuck it in the wheelie bin (and let the council charge you more for it in future)

Mine just goes in the bin, along with the spent hops after the boil.

Others I believe compost theirs.
