Brewday - Saturday 17th

Post by Calum » Sat Mar 17, 2007 12:07 am

I'm going to celebrate Paddy's Day by making a batch if something dark. To be honest I wouldn't normally thank you for a slurp of Guiness but I feel I should at least enter into the spririt and make something with more than a 100g of Crystal in it. :D

Apologies in advance for the use of my spreadsheet. It is quite basic but it is allowing me to formulate recipes and have an idea of what it is going to turn out like.

I have chosen 70% efficiency but last week I managed 73.4% so I might manage to squeeze an extra pint or so out fo this.

I hope the Irish contingent don't mind the tongue in cheek name. Its just a bit of craic

Its been a fairly succesful day. Beer is now in the bath cooling down.

It usually takes about 3hrs to get down to pitching temperature. :)

Hey Calum, looks like a fine brew to me!! The beer I'm making isn't Irish either, but who cares!! Good luck!

All done and yeast pitched.

I ended up with around 21.5 litres @ 1047 whihc gave me an efficiency of 70% which I am quite happy about.

Now I have to make up a silly label for my Paddys Pale Ale.

I didn't bother with photos today but I thought I would take this one. It looks like someone has placed a rather large pavlova on top of the beer

That yeast head is quality mate, never had one like that at all, was it strawberry or peach underneath?.....and where's the cherries?
