They are, to all intents and purposes, the same as this site explains:

but when baking bread I tend to use molasses in either form - as a liquid or as a sugar. The liquid, though, does give more colour and 'treacle' taste. I've not used it in brewing yet.
You should be able to get either at any decent deli or health food shop. Sorry, can't speak for supermarkets - never use 'em.

cheers all, im just ill prepared as usual sat on the bog this morning reading a dave line book and trying to decide what to brew tomorow. ive got most of his ingredients except maize and mollasses (or treacle) . as i pass by the supermarket onthe way home from work i thought i might be able to pick some up.
i'll be able to cobble something together anyway. ive got 3.5kg pale, .5kg crystal , about .5kg pearl, bit of roasted, bit of black, plenty of fuggles and goldings and some yeast. if i get some treacle and demerara i should be able to create something good.
anyone used polenta instead of maize? mind you i doubt that morrisons will have that. i really should have a stock built up ready
cornflakes? hmmmm.....

In this part of the world mollasis and treacle are definitly different. Both from cane sugar however mollasis is futher down the process. Treacle is the result of brown sugar production (and as a result has a light to mid golden colour) while mollasis is from white sugar (and as a result has all the byproduct from refining and is a deep dark brown)
Mollasis is awesome as a colouring agent .
