Mash Liqour

Is there a formula for working out how much water to use in the mash tun? I'm going to be making an elderflower ale 20L batch using 4kg pale and 200g crystal. Not sure how much water to use for that amount of grain?

The actual amount of mash liquor is a personal thing depending on how stiff you want your mash to be :? The usual range is 2 to 3.5 L/Kg.
If you work on 2.5L/Kg and aim for a stirke temp of 72 C you will normally hit a mash temp of 65 to 66 C if your grain is at room temperature :)
