Todays brew is a nice simple quaffing bitter for summer :D

23 Litres at 75% efficiency
OG 1.038 30 IBU's 3.6% abv

3.1kg optic pale malt
500g flaked rice
250g crystal malt

50g Goldings 75 minute boil
10g Goldings last 15 minutes of boil
10G Goldings at boiler power off.

Mash liquor is prepared off to dough in :D

Forget to mention using Safbrew T-58 for this one, first time using but from what I've read I'm hoping the spicy, peppery flavours produced will go well with the Goldings 8)
Mash temp was 67C I was aiming for 66C but forgot to adjust for warmer grain #-o

I'll be interested to find out how this goes - I've been thinking about using this yeast to add a spicy dimension to my goldings-based beers.

All done and dusted, a very slow run off was the only problem today, but even that had its benefits as I got 24 liters at an OG of 1.040 a brewhouse efficiency of 84% :D

Too much rice :?

Probably :)
But not being a cheapskate and wanting to use up all the flaked rice I bought would mean there probably wouldn't have been a problem in the first place

I have got to say that the T-58 yeast is seriously whiffy during fermentation
It is definately going to be a major influence on the taste of this beer :?

I'm sure the finished beer will be fine :)
But the smell while it is fermenting is an order of magnitude whiffier than any other dried yeast I've used 8)

Sorry to dredge this an old topic, but I was wondering what you thought of the resulting beer using T58 tubby?

I didn't like it :(
I don't know whether it's aeration, an infection or the yeast but it had an "off" flavour.
