Tupperware storage out of the light

Post by Reg » Mon Sep 11, 2006 11:38 pm

Going against the "ehem" grain of common thought I seem to be getting pretty effective strogage using large tupperware containers for spare malt.

The yeast capture I did was from 6 week old malt.

I bought seal tight boxes from matalan to store my open hop foil packets in, however, when I press on them lightly you can hear the air and smell the aroma escape.

I now place a plastic bag around the box and knot tightly.

I'm wondering if there is any need for the box.

You ever noticed the zippers never go completely to the end....well that's what I told Mrs Vossy when we 1st started going out...those zippers just keep opening of their own accord

Just saw that 'quote' option in top right of message - always wondered how people did that

I buy the 25kg sacks of malt that have a plastic inner liner. Like Daab, I just squeeze out as much air as possible and tie the top with string.

I've used year old malt and it's been fine.

I've not had any problems with long term storage of crushed malt either.

I don't know why purists frown on it.

Great to have the forum back BTW. Nice work =D>
