Today's Brew - Townes Brewery IPA

Post by Niall K » Fri Jun 15, 2007 10:55 am

Trying another one of Marc Ollosson’s recipes later today.

Townes Brewery IPA

In the Tun
4880g Pale Malt
195g Wheat Malt

In The Boiler
Cascade hops (5.2%) 96g (start of boil)
Cascade hops (5.2%) 27g (last 15 minutes)
Irish moss 5g (last 15 minutes)

Original Gravity 1045
Final Gravity 1010
Alcohol Content 4.5%
Final Volume 23 litres

Would Safale 04 yeast be ok to use with this?

Sounds like a fine brew. Have a good un 8)

I can't see why S04 would not work well with that brew 8)

Hi Niall, tried that one a few months ago, bottled it and it didn't last long.I must have achieved a good extraction because it was definately more than 5% . Never took a reading, couldn't find the jar. Very pale I think it could have done with some crystal(my taste anyway) Made a note to make it again.Hope it goes well.l

Thanks for the replies. I was thinking it was going to be on the pale side myself. I do like ales with a bit of colour and it happens that I have some spare crystal malt in the fridge. How much do you reckon I add without harming the ale to much?

Hi Niall, I'd go for 150/200 gr. shouldn't alter the taste too much but make it less ppale. Someone may have other ideas but I normally only use that much in most of my brews.
Hope this helps.
