About a month ago I made a 5 gallon brew using one of the Hobgoblin recipes to be found on this site. I couldn't obtain the Cara Pils so instead chucked in some more crystal malt. I raised the mash temp a little as some recommend and hoped for the best. The fermentation stopped a little early, I couldn't get it restarted so racked into the final barrel.
I was surprised that the result was not bad at all, a nice dark ale just a little sweet for my normal taste.
However, last weekend a chum served me a bottle of Theakstons Old Peculiar and I realised instantly that I had accidently created a clone. Trouble is, although the taste is almost identical, even Mrs Sneezewort who is not a beer drinker, agrees, it lacks the body that Old Peculiar has. Could any of the experts recommend what I could add that might add body but not affect the taste. I would be most grateful.
