However, I came back from my holidays on Friday and decided to get a brew going and noticed your Batch Sparge Calculator page and thought I would give it a go. After I chucked in my figures it suggested that I wasn't collecting enough wort. Using the calculator and collecting the specified wort I managed to achieve an efficiency of some 85% which is 20% more than normal (the only difference from the instructions was that I did it over three batches and not the two).
Now the proof of the pudding will be in the drinking. What will the difference be between a 70% and an 85% brew - only time will tell. I do however have a different beer from the one I initially intended. I was looking for 23l @ 1045 but got 23l @ 1054. I would have dilutted but there is no more room in the bucket.
Isn't this hobby fascinating - we are always learning.
