Hi all,
I've been going through my brewing kit ready for the new season and noticed that my stocks of Gypsum, Calcium Chloride, Burton salts and Irish Moss - all Brupaks labelled - have best before dates on. All are way out of date as I'd not noticed this before. Can these things really have a shelf life or is it just a marketing ploy. Thoughts appreciated!
Can brewing salts have a shelf life?
Re: Can brewing salts have a shelf life?
Calcium Chloride especially can absorb moisture from the air, so you'll end up weighing out watery mush if you aren't careful
I brew therefore I ... I .... forget

And of course similarly with DWB that contains the same. Kept sealed any of them will outlive you. ( having said that, I do not know how old you are )vacant wrote:Calcium Chloride especially can absorb moisture from the air, so you'll end up weighing out watery mush if you aren't careful

They're exceedingly well sealed. Therefore I shall outlive them. For I shall drink them

"Best before" is not the same as "use by", although many people confuse the two...
