eisbock - freezing a wort

Post by Fatgodzilla » Fri Aug 03, 2007 5:52 am

Me again. Looking at making a strong beer (8%) for a competition, came across the notion of freezing the wort, removing the resulting ice to obtain a concentrated result. Eisbock was one such beer that uses this method. I wouldn't have dreamed of doing this, Google was no help. Anyone frozen a wort and done this, what should I look for ? (currently have a lager approaching FG and keen to sacrifice some for the experiment). Please help me you wise men from the North !

Here is a link to the podcast for Eisbock from the Jamil show, you may need to save this to your desktop to play it

Have you tried to do a doppelbock before an Eisbock?

I think one of the interests in Eisbock is that it gets very had to maintain that clean lager flavor when you start getting into the high gravities.
