SOOOOOO,
I always feel a little guilty throwing out the grain once it's been through the Tun, but can't really think of anything I could do / use it for, although I'm sure there are a million uses.
So, to my question, what do people do with their spent grain?

bread i've made also, chicken/pig feed when applicable, compost heap otherwise to help break down the leaves (at least i think that's the theory.. ?)

Local farms would be happy for it!
Or use it for fishing?

If you have a breadmaker replace 30% by weight of the flour with spent grains and only use two thirds of the water in the recipe and use the yeast from the first fermenter to make the bread?

Now that I like the idea of, all I need to do is find someone in the Basingstoke area with chickens!

I had considered that but thought the quantity I produce they may not really be bothered about? What have your experiences been?
I'm also liking the idea of the bread, I bake bread regularly so that may be a good way to use a small amount.

I've always used mine for fishing or give it to friends who fish, so I've never given it to a local farm.
My local micro brewery does give his spent grain to the local farm. I think he drops it off for them

That's what I do. 1 mash tun-full of spent grain = 1 dozen eggs.

I took inspiration from the Brooklyn brewery and tried to used my spent grain. Have made some nice loaves of bread and biscuits using recipes from
http://www.brooklynbrewshop.com/themash ... tgrainchef
Bowl of the spent grain just after mash
spread out on baking trays lined with greaseproof paper and stuck in the oven on the lowest setting to dry out.
Sample of the left over grain dried and ground using a coffee grinder. Normally do three pizza trays and get a ton of flour to use.
Took 6 hours to dry fully, grind and sift down to a flour. Bit of faff but well worth it for the tasty treats.

They will only eat it when it is fresh i.e. max three days old as it goes sour very quickly
