Help with Guinness Clone on A/A%

Post by Niall K » Thu Aug 16, 2007 11:46 am

Brewing Dave’s Line’s Guinness Clone this Saturday. Can someone please put me in the right direction with the amount of hops to use? Below is the actual recipe from Dave’s book ‘The Big Book Of Brewing’ but there is no AA% of what each amount of hops was calculated on. My AA% of my Brewers Gold is 7.1% and my Northern Brewer is 7%. Would it be ok to still use these quantities or should I change them.
I also noticed a difference in 2 of Dave’s recipes for Guinness. The one below and one in ‘Brewing Beers Like Those You Buy’ were he only uses 453g of Flaked Barley. Which one would be more accurate?

Dave Lines Draught Guinness Clone
3175g Maris Otter
910g Flaked Barley
453g Crush Roast Barley
28g Brewers Gold
85g Northern Brewer Hops
Irish Ale Yeast

Thanks
Niall

I made one with 30g of Galena hops as advised by John at the H&G, it was delicious. We worked it out to be be 50 IBU's
