Since I am off all week and made my first AG brew on tuesday I thought it would be rude not to do another today. So with the pale malt I had left and the addition of some crystal malt and some fuggles hops I knocked up a basic bitter. It turned out stronger than I thought OG 1058 and as I am going to bottle it I left it at that.To round the day off nicely I popped down to my bottle store(outhouse) to check out what was looking good.. 6 weeks ago I made a kit form my local HBS using spraymalt that I had stopped drinking after a couple of bottles cause I didn't think it was quite ready. My patience has paid off!!

I now have some good ale to keep me going till my first AG brew is ready and I can't wait to try it cause things can only get better

cheers!!

it's amazing how good a beer can become after a few weeks/months maturing, bottling is ideal for laying down beer and forgetting about it, and patience is always a virtue in this game,
good luck with your new brew

This laying down of beer for weeks is just far too difficult with barrels! I need more of them I think, and then an AG set up to keep the costs of filling em down... and then another shed to keep it in to mature!
I can see this getting expensive!!!!!
Glad to head your beer has improved though, as my Bitter is just a bit dissapointing. Better than the homebrew of old, but not great. It was made with brewers sugar though so perhaps the next one will be better (spray malt!)

FJ - You're a brewing machine! Wait until you get into the "one brew a weekend" routine like me, you'll have a beer store to rival your local pubs!

Looks like you got your brewing has got off to a flier. Practice makes perfect
I'm brewing with you today. I'm making an 80/ type brew this morning. Just waiting for the sparge water to heat up and then I'm on to the next stage.

good luck with the brew Calum good to see your brewing a scottish ale.I am currently drinking a scottish export ale that is ok although its a kit made before I went AG.(geordie made with spraymalt)
I intend to do a brew a week like JP to build up a good store of ales.I am gradually getting to the stage where I have loads of ready to drink ale so I have a choice of what I can have instead of drinking what's ready, even if it's pants !!

Since its the weekend I thought I would do just one more brew before I go back to work on monday.I had a few bits left over that needed using up so I popped down to me local HBS and got the stuff I needed,3k of maris otter malt, and made a slight variation on the Carolines Fine Ale that I made on tuesday.I had a much more constant temp in my mash tun cause I put the grain in at a slightly higher temp and was able to hold the temp at 65-68 throughout which I was pleased with.I have learned its all about getting used to the process and your gear no matter how basic it is (like mine). I wont be brewing again till the weekend and I fancy doing a Porter to bottle up for xmas.
