Greeny's build-it-and-brew-it-in-a-day-athon

Morning all.

I did not know if this thread should reside in the equipment or grain beer section.

The intention is that today I will build my equipment, test it, clean it and use it for it’s first brew. This will also be my first bash at all grain brewing  . This might seem a little frantic and not particularly well planned. My problem is that I (like many of you on this forum) am an engineer. I work in an industry that operates 24/7. I am field based and travel quite a bit. So even as I start this day, I may get the call and have to drop every thing! As I am working all weekend now is my only chance in the past few weeks.

Equipment wise I have the following.

2 x 70Ltr ST / ST stockpot (ebay)
4 x 10A element (Exserve)
15mm Copper pipe, and various fittings (compression tank connector, ball valves etc).
Copper hop strainer (LHB Shop)
IC (LHB Shop)
Brupack Insulated Mash Tun (LHB Shop) – this is the one element that I have not built myself.
Various other bits and pieces from my kit brewing (fermenting bins, hydrometers, thermometers etc).

So far this morning I have cut all copper to length and soldered up where possible. I will start cutting the stock pots at 09:00 Hrs so as not to disturb neighbours etc.

Once built, I will fill both pots with water and test each element in turn for approximately 15 mins each. If this is successful, I will add soda crystals to the test water and leave it for 20 mins. I will then rinse out and start the brew.

The intended brew is Vossy’s 100% Satisfaction. 1 grain and 1 hop. This should make things a little easier.

I will hopefully post some photo’s once I have mastered those instructions in the tap room.

Good luck

Giant NRS-1

Quite pleased with it - I cleaned it and had a full service in April. I have not ridden it since - work again

Right fella's

Quick update. By the way - please feel free to pass any advice. I am running on advice read through the forum to get me this far. Any help will be more than gratefully received.

Holes are now mainly cut. Just fettling to do and then de-grease prior to assembly.

Braced across the pot using timber prior to centre pop and drill.

Drill and hole saw. I used 20mm for the tank connector and 40mm for the elements. Hole saws are Bosch cobalt powerchange range. 'Like a knife through butter' :D

Build, test and brew up all in one day?
This sounds like a job for the A-Team! :D
Good luck with it!
I am following this thread with interest as I have a 70 ltr stock pot to convert.
I shall probably end up with a 70 ltr collander. :D
