Promash

Post by RabMaxwell » Sun Aug 26, 2007 9:06 pm

I have been having a look at promash & just noticed that it isn't registering any IBUs at 10 minutes boil or below even with large quantities. Is there something not right with the settings surely this cannot be right i am positive it used to. Cheers

Its works for me, but the conversation rate is small for 10 minutes addition

1oz, 25 grams at 10 minutes gave me 3.67 IBU’s

Rab
Which IBU formula are you using? (Not that it will make a lot of difference.)

Perhaps it's the influence of the Electric Brae?

My Styrian Stunner recipe is adjusting fine
Hops @ 3% AA Original IBU 25.6
Adding an extra 20gr to existing hop bill with 5 min boil increases IBU to 26.2

I tested with as the base hop BU was low and and wanted to see if the total IBU did change.
Check out the beers we have for sale @ Mix Brewery

I had to format my computer a few months ago & lost my Promash . I have figured out what's been happening when i reinstalled promash it's been set at Garetz instead of Rager apparently Garetz is the only setting that doesn't account for IBUs below 11 minutes surely Garetz is wrong.

Surely Garetz is wrong.
They're all wrong.

The only way to measure IBUs is to analyse the finished beer. Garetz, Rager and Tinseth all attempt to fit a selection of real-life data with various curve fits, and then extrapolate for conditions like OG.

None of them allow for IBU extraction after the end of the boil, during a steep, for example.

I don't even know what formula I have Promash set for. However I did get Brewlab to analyse my beer and found it was 75% of what was predicted, probably because I have a pretty gentle rolling boil. So I've added a fiddle factor of 75%.

The customers don't complain.

None of them allow for IBU extraction after the end of the boil,
I once did a brew with loads of aroma hops boiled for one minute before switch-off. I then sealed it up and left it to cool overnight. It was rather over hopped after twelve hours of steeping!
