Dry Hopping - Added Loose or in a Muslin Bags

Post by kloorob » Fri Feb 06, 2015 6:55 pm

Hi,

I have read a lot about the benefits to taste by dry hopping, but would like to know which is the best method? Do I added the hops loose or do I place in a muslin bag to avoid the bits when botteling?

Thanks.

I have dry-hopped with whole hops and pellets, both in bags and loose. If I was doing it tomorrow I'd bung pellets in loose. After a week the hop powder even sinks beneath the trub and you can siphon it out clear. Using leaf hops is a pain when you try and siphon.

I used to use a bag but I now dry hop loose as it exposes more of the hop surface area to the beer. I syphon through a very fine micron bag so it minimises hop debris In the keg/bottle.
