Post Number 200!!!!

Well, it seems appropriate that my 200th post should wind up in Grain Brewing I suppose given the evil work you all do to corrupt us poor innocents.

Anyway - being left at home, alone, whilst suffering from Malaria (long story... well - not really I suppose... got bitten by a mossie, that covers it... actually twice cos I got 2 flavours!) with internet and credit card was probably a bad idea. My basket was filled with H&G goodies before I knew it. I resisted for a bit, the fever subsided and the basket sat there looking at me. So I went to the pub. The basket looked at me. It was starting to look cold and lonely. It was pleading with me to press submit... the credit card was longingly itching to get out the wallet....

You can guess the rest!

I shall do the Almondbury kit before embarking on the Dark Side as that gives me a couple of weeks to a) finish a half full keg (assuming that the IPA kit comes good, and the Almondbury is occupying the other one) and b) decide what to pop my cherry with :? I am having thoughts though.....

But shhhh don't tell t'wife - I may have mentioned something about getting it around my birthday see... and that isn't until the end of the month

Aye - usually I end up painting rooms in very random colours whilst out my mind... used to get some ace delerious spells, but don't seem to get quite as bad these days.

Still - brewing whilst in that mind set... it would be interesting... you wouldn't know what to expect until you cracked upen the brew a few weeks later

It was only a matter of time though!

I may when the credit card bill comes through!

I had forgotten that I had ordered a set of photobooks of my brother's wedding for him on it which cost a few hundered quid last week too

Ah well... there is always what is left of the ISA to raid!

Rob, good choice and much fun to be had.

So any ideas on your first beer?

First brew... kind of....

See, I downloaded a copy of Beersmith just for shits and giggles... and that gets you playing around - and thinking about stuff. Probably a bit premature really, but how does this sound:

Trossachs Steamer

(23l batch, estimated OG 1061)

5.5kg Pale Malt
0.5kg Crystal Malt
45g Northern Brewer @ 60min
19g Northern Brewer @ 20min
19g Northern Brewer @ 5min

Bung in some Safale S04 and it is a kind of bastardisation of San Fransisco Steam Ale which should suit some friends around house warming time!

About 41 EBUs... which is getting a bit IPA... which is good as I do like a good IPA :D

I was figuring that it is going to be a fairly big pint so a decent amount of hops would be required to balance out the SG... or am I wrong on that?

Ace - that is a useful rule of thumb to know too :D

This is the side of brewing that I really wanted to get into, though really thought I would do a few more kits first... but hey, 4 kits should be enough! It's fun playing around with ideas and seeing what happens... the fact that in brewing you get beer as your reward just makes it a winning past time for me
