I heat my hot water in BK and transfer to the MT, us Beersmith to calculate the temp drop from the grain.
Then I stick my wort chiller in the HLT and recirculate the water in the mash tun till it gets up to the temp I need and chuck in the grain.
Its quick to raise the temp a few degrees if you're too cold.
If you have a pump then maybe you could do the same?
Let the mash settle for 10mins and stick the pump back on and you can HERMs your way to clear wort too

Re: Water temperature
Interesting post from vacant and his thermopot.
Just finished fitting out my thermopot at the weekend and was going to try a mash in it for the first time today.
Unfortunately Jimsbeerkit site was down for some time today and I couldn't get access to the strike temp calculator.
I have put the inaugural mash off until the weekend now.
What I would like to know is, does anybody know the equation to calaculate the strike temperature? If so could you post it here please.
It would be handy to be independent of all this technology , just in case the site goes down again.
First time that Jims site has failed for me, what a time to happen.
Cheers all.

Save a copy of the webpage http://www.jimsbeerkit.co.uk/calc.html as a complete MHT file.
You can then use it offline.
Internet Explorer may be the best browser to save with, as you can save it as an single MHTML file.

Re: Water temperature
Me again.
I have taken up Blackaddlers suggestion and made a copy.
I am very much a dimwit when it comes to computery things but managed it OK.
I even knocked off my internet connection to check it works off line.
Many Thanks Chaps.
