Band-Aid Smell
Re: Band-Aid Smell
Thanks all for your feedback. I was also unsure if the high sparge temperature alone was enough to cause the off flavour, but its a recipe I have brewed before, in the same vessels and with the same procedure, so it was all I could pinpoint. I use starsan as a steriliser, and I've had no problems until this brew, so it might well be an infection from a different source. My tap water is a bit of an unknown quantity at the moment, and I'm keen to improve my water chemistry although I'm moving house soon (in theory) so I was going to wait until I'm settled in the new place, then get a proper water report and start adjusting accordingly. I think this lot will go down the drain, much as it pains me, but I'll bottle a couple for the hell of it and see what they they smell like in a month or so!

As someone said before the taste won't change. When you do move house I suggest you install an inline active carbon filter to the tap that you use for brewing.Harrowbrewer wrote:Thanks all for your feedback. Re: Band-Aid Smell
Weirdly I suffered this in a bottle of commercial beer I had over the weekend.
