Pale Ale. Possibly?

Post by hedwig0101 » Mon Oct 01, 2007 9:42 am

Though i'd design my own recipe, but after brewing i'm thinking that maybe I should have got more advise on the subject of designing recipes.

What can I expect from the following. Drinkable beer or an unbalanced mess.

Batch - 5gal

Ingredients.

Maris Otter - 7lb
Pearl Malt - 3lb
Caramunich Malt - 5oz
Crystal Malt - 5oz
Aromatic Malt - 5oz

Hops - All East Kent Goldings

1.5oz - 60mins
1oz - 15mins
1.5oz - flameout (0mins)

All comments and advice welcome.

Thanks

Interesting choice of speciality malts - is that just what you have to hand or would you be buying the caramunich especially?

I think he's already made it and is asking us if it will taste ok.

It is already made.

They are what i put together based on the descriptions. I also have some pilsner malt which i didn't use.

But i have enough of everything left to rebrew it with any suggested changes.

Thanks

Looks good to me. I use CaraMunich in one of my regular pale ales.

Assuming you mean 5 UK gallons, 75% mash efficiency and your East Kent Goldings are 4.2%AA (all fairly big assumptions), you can expect a pale ale of around 1.050 and 24 IBUs of bitterness (which is fairly sweet).

What yeast?

The SG was 1.054 and I used dry yeast Safale US 05.
