I've never thought about this, but during yesterday's brewday I wondered: when cooling with a CFC, do people transfer straight via CFC to FV, or recirc to boil kettle until whole boil kettle cooled and then transfer to FV? Or does it make any difference either way?
Ive been cooling and transferring via the CFC straight to FV with no problems (well, not that I've noticed). Thermometer on exit of CFC reads exit temp of 16-20 on first pass (depending on how I throttle back the cooling water) and it's v quick this way.
Any advice/ thoughts?
Using CFC: straight in to FV, or recirc back to BK?

If you can get it straight to pitching temperature then I can't think of a reason to recirculate unless your fermenter isn't ready.
Ingredients: Water, Barley, Hops, Yeast, Seaweed, Blood, Sweat, The swim bladder of a sturgeon, My enemies tears, Scenes of mild peril, An otter's handbag and Riboflavin.

Yeh straight to the fv is the best way
Recirc for 5 mins without cooling to sterilise before cooling

The Grainfather guys did a video about it and explaining their reasons behind cooling straight to the FV. I will recirc back to the BK if I want to bring the temp below 80° for hops but apart for 10 mins for sterilising that's it.

We did some experimenting in the 1bbl brewery I sold in October to see if partially cooling before going straight to the FV made a difference and found cooling to 80C then going to the FV cooled it about 10 mins quicker than going straight there or cooling below 60C 1st.

+1 my cfc was intended to be used to recirculate back into the kettle and whirlpool the debris into a central cone before final draining, however in practice the cfc was efficient enough to chill the brew in a single pass so its straight into the fv with me too

ist update for months n months..
Fermnting: not a lot..
Conditioning: nowt
Maturing: Challenger smash, and a kit lager
Drinking: dry one minikeg left in the store
Coming Soon Lots planned for the near future nowt for the immediate

Thanks, all: appreciate the advice and thoughts. I'll keep plonking directly to FV unless whirlpooling hops.
