Cheaper to buy a bottle of star san. Dunk the bottles and place on a bottle tree.

Not sure if the hottest wash will actually be effective or not.

No experience myself but I know that others have sanitised bottles in the dishwasher with success. My concern would be positioning them to ensure that the hot water gets inside the bottle correctly

I often put some in to remove labels but sometimes residue left inside (as at same time as dishes) so I rinse after. I personally would not trust to fully clean let alone sanitise.

Water cannot fully get into base to remove real crud so soak and sanitise

And buy a good bottle brush. Yeast residue in the few clear bottles I use is much more obvious and only removed with brushing too.

Rinse 'em out soon after drinking the beer and there will be no crud to remove.
Best wishes

Agree and do this too, but always use a couple of clear bottles with each batch to see how quickly the beer clears initially and despite immediate rinsing there is a fine coating of what I assume is yeast residue around the neck and base of the bottle, much more difficult to see in the brown bottles. May be belt and braces as I also Starsan immediately before bottling after the soak / brush / dry and storage with the flexible silicone caps to prevent bits falling in the clean bottles.

Top up the bottle with water after pouring your beer until you're ready to clean.
Thorough shake and rinse out 3 or 4 times
Dishwasher - really only to get the outside clean
Brush inside out with warm water and rinse
Dunk in a bucket of warm star san for at least 2 minutes
Drain for 1 minute
If not using straight away seal tops with clingfilm

As the bottles are still slightly warm the air inside contracts as it cools which helps the seal. I batch clean bottles so can be several weeks before use. If the film isn't concave when I come to use them they go back into the cleaning cycle - only happens rarely.

My bottles are clean before going in the dishwasher, so I’m using it solely to sanitise. My theory is that Pasteurisation at 73c kills most bugs and bottles coming out of the washer are too hot to touch, been doing it for a long time now with never a problem.

Blimey, this is all very involved just for a pint. No offense intended, but why not use kegs? Just one washing process for about 40 pints of beer.

Nowhere to store them mate - just got the 1 brew fridge for fermenting. Bottles can be a pain but I can bring a few in to get them down to serving temp plus I'm building up a stock of styles hence only bottles work - at least for me.

Taken from how to brew by John Palmer.

Autoclaves, Pressure Cookers and Dishwashers
Typically when we talk about using steam we are referring to the use of an autoclave or pressure cooker. These devices use steam under pressure to sterilize items. Because steam conducts heat more efficiently, the cycle time for such devices is much shorter than when using dry heat. The typical amount of time it takes to sterilize a piece of equipment in an autoclave or pressure cooker is 20 minutes at 257° F (125 °C) at 20 pounds per square inch (psi).

Dishwashers can be used to sanitize, as opposed to sterilize, most of your brewing equipment, you just need to be careful that you don't warp any plastic items. The steam from the drying cycle will effectively sanitize all surfaces. Bottles and other equipment with narrow openings should be pre-cleaned. Run the equipment through the full wash cycle without using any detergent or rinse agent. Dishwasher Rinse Agents will destroy the head retention on your glassware. If you pour a beer with carbonation and no head, this might be the cause

I always use detergent and rinse agent is in there, but never have a problem with head retention. Bottles are always clean before sanitising

What’s the difference , sterilise or sanitise?
I claim that bottles coming out of the DW are sterilised because they’re too hot to touch
