Delay before boiling.

Post by Midlife » Fri Jul 19, 2019 3:03 pm

Hello, quick query, sorry if this has been asked before... I had to go and sort something out during brewing and left the wort (completed the spare phase) for about an hour before I started the boil, any issues with this, will it affect the beer?

Fist time this has happened to me in the brewing process... I might just be fussing but thought its worth a check.

Cheers.

It will be fine. I doubt there will be any noticeable difference

The only major difference is under 77c the enzymes are still active, so they can change the profile of the beer. Souring occurs around 45c and takes at least 12 hours.
The loose trub would have settled too, maybe on the element, so a stir would have helped!

Yes forgot to say I gave it a good stir on heat again. Thanks.

I haven't brewed that regularly for the last few years, but when I do, I generally mash one day and boil the next to make things a bit more relaxed and have never noticed and problems. I suspect robwalkerafain may have more finely tuned taste buds and knowledge than I do though.
I started doing this one winter when my boiler wasn't reaching a rolling boil after about 2pm.
