Beer without Protafloc

Post by guypettigrew » Mon Mar 30, 2020 6:22 pm

Postal services down here in Christchurch seem to have collapsed. Deliveries just a couple of times a week.

On Wednesday I'm intending to brew. But I've run out of Protafloc. I ordered some tablets from Crossmyloof nearly a week ago, but have no confidence they'll arrive in time.

What happens when you brew without Protafloc? Is the finished beer hazy, does it have unwanted tastes?

What should I do? The yeast starter is going well, but could be held cool for a couple of days. Should I wait until the Protafloc arrives, or press on without it?

Thanks.

The Crossmyloof tablets arrived in time. A couple of brews on and I've decided just 0.5g of the tablets does the trick. The number of tablets I've bought should last me a lifetime!
