Recipe suggestions for Cascade hops

Post by gobuchul » Thu Apr 09, 2020 1:42 pm

Going through my hop stocks and I came across a large bag, about 300g, of Cascade hops. Forgot I had them.

Can anyone suggest an idea for using them up?

I have plenty of malt, crystal, carapils etc. to make up quite varied grain bills.

Sierra Nevada Pale Ale is a classic option but they also work quite well in a "modern" bitter either on their own or blended with Goldings etc.

Only thing to watch is that they don't store particularly well, so be generous with them if they've been stored at room temperature.

NB's suggestion is spot on. If you want something as an alternative an English Golden Ale recipe with Cascade only would work too, just a little more character from an English Ale yeast as a bonus.

Cascade is one of those hops that goes with almost everything. I use it quite a lot with Amarillo or citra. Earlier this year I made a cracking NEIPA with Nelson Sauvin, Cascade and Chinook at flame out and the same on dry hop. You have to go easy on the chinook or it takes over. Also goes great with simcoe.

Several years ago I brewed a sweet stout with cascades that came out quite good.
I'm just here for the beer.

Cascade is extremely adaptable to literally any Americanized style of beer. Any possible type of beer you wanna drink, just use your Cascade for an American twist.
