Has anyone used saaz for dry hopping?
I have a Galaxy hopped "pilsner" underway. So far, 100% Galaxy and the aroma at the end of fermentation is almost over powering apricot/fruit - I'm worried that it will be too "New World" punchy and I'm thinking of replacing my Galaxy dry hop plan with an equivalent dose of Saaz to bring in a bit more sharp herbaly/pilsner taste. It is has been fermented with Fermentis S23 @ 13 deg C.
I have read various and conflicting reports about saaz being too grassy/green when used for dry hopping - so I'm cautious
Does anyone have experience of using saaz dry and how it can balance against a fruity new world apricot bomb?
Cheers,
BB
Dry hopping with saaz
Re: Dry hopping with saaz
I've used Saaz for dry hopping once and I didn't like it. Sharp, grassy, but not in a very good way. But it depends on how much you want to use and for how many liters and days? 50 grams in 20 liters for 2-3 days might work for you and might even out the overly fruity flavour.
