True, it always does taste good and has the desired effect of going to my head after a few, just I can't be confident and how strong my beer actually is lol

So, just an update, I am lazy and I have not done the 16g of sugar yet, however when brewing today I have noticed that my hydrometer does not move at pre boil gravity of 1.042 between temps of 51° and 20°c. I must try this hydrometer trick you mentioned but this is really weird how that gravity does not change over those temps
That's just impossible! An online calculator, such as this one, calculates the SG at 20°C would be 1.051 if it was 1.042 at 51°C.

I know it's impossible, thats why I think my hydro is busted.
It's like it's doesn't want to float any higher that 1.042 ISH, final gravity is a little higher by a few points even though I boil off over a gallon.
I know it also does not take a rocket scientist to read a hydro, everything is thoroughly mixed before a reading.
I use brewfather and that will allow me to temp correct, yet that reading did not change from 1.042 between 51^c and 20°c.
I have been going mad over this for a few brews but I think this pretty much proves my hydro is stuffed

You really shouldn’t put a cheap hydrometer into hot wort. It causes the glass to expand and the paper scale inside moves out of place.

Not going to be your problem I think, but might contribute to it.
Ingredients: Water, Barley, Hops, Yeast, Seaweed, Blood, Sweat, The swim bladder of a sturgeon, My enemies tears, Scenes of mild peril, An otter's handbag and Riboflavin.

Has your new hydrometer arrived? And what, if anything, have you found out?

Hydrometer did arrive along with a refractometer.
Carried a a brew last week and when comparing reading with old hydro and new along with the refractometer, the old one was certainly off, old hydro read 1.042 pre boil and the new one read 1.048 and refractometer also read 1.048

Success!!! Wonderful things, refractometers. Tiny bit of liquid at any temperature. Quickly adjusts to the temperature of the refractometer. No need to take a 100 ml sample and cool it down.

Should significantly improve your brew days.
