What was the differing strengths of draught? I have his European book and the latest one (the one that was just tarted up from the previous edition). I’ve brewed it about 6 times now, a very nice drink, but I have been reducing the roasted barley to make it less pronounced and a little smoother (to my taste!).
I think I’ve overdone it, by reducing it by 20%, I’ve lost all the taste! It’s more like a mild than a dry stout.
I’ve still got a cornie keg full and I do have a hop container I could drop in.
Any ideas guys?
As for your loss of taste is that not what Guinness themselves did over the course of years ?

I only remember bottled Guinness until the nitro version of draught Guinness arrived at the time the breweries were moving from proper beer to keg.
In Guy's recent posting, it lists Guinness, I think at 4.5% ABV, bottle conditioned. That would be bottled locally from large wooden casks brewed at one of Guinness's three breweries of the time. It was said Guinness moved to draught because their beer was being diluted with local stout during the bottling process.

Without patience, life becomes difficult and the sooner it's finished, the better.

The first recipe is what I normally go on, although it has a relatively low ABV (fermentation always stops at 1016) it’s still very tasty.
The brew in question I dropped the roasted barley to 400g. To be fair having got used to the less intense roast barley effect, it’s going down a treat.
I have the Dave Line version from BBLTYB. A book that was my bible when I was brewing in the early 80’s. Now I’ve got a few more recipes to try, I think I’ll go a little stronger next time.
