finings

Post by jean-yves » Mon Feb 13, 2006 9:12 am

i've make a stout saturday, which i think will be very good OG 1050 :P

check my pale ale made last tuesday, FG 1007 the OG was 1040 so i put it to the fridge to settle the yeast.
then i'll transfert it in another vessel to clear the beer before racking.

do anybody use any finings to help it clarify? <_<

I use gelatine in the barrel every time.

I have used isinglass in the past, and it should be fine (though it's more difficult to keep than gelatine). The only thing to remember is that it doesn't work properly with bottom fermenting yeast (allegedly) as it apparently works by attracting the yeast to it by electrostatic charge and bottom fermenting yeast has the wrong charge. Who would have thought that, eh? :P
