Style Guidelines in the UK?
Style Guidelines in the UK?
G'day, I am an expatriate Scot who is all grain brewing in Oz.
I am a regular poster in http://www.aussiehomebrewer.com/forum/
I have been googling for some time trying to find what style guidelines are in use in UK homebrew competitions, with no real success.
I am well aware of the http://www.bjcp.org/index.php guidelines, but was wondering, in particular, what standards British brewers brew their native styles to in UK competitions?
Can anyone help point me in the right direction?
edit: link to aussiehomebrewer.com corrected

G'day Stu
Bloody hell that is detailed information!
I'm not the best person to answer this as I've never entered a competition, but until someone more knowledgable comes along ... I know that there is a National Guild of Wine and Beer Judges and there is some info on beer styles on their http://www.ngwbj.org.uk/beer_styles.htm . They are used by the http://www.craft brewing.org.uk/ in their competitions...
Like I say, I'm a novice so I expect someone else will be able to give you more / better info

Thanks guys, those were just the kind of links I was struggling to come up with.
DaaB, is their an online link to UK-Homebrew?
Trying to refine the guidelines we use in this http://www.anawbs.org.au/ I help organise, and input from home for the UK classes will be very helpful.

QUOTE (Daft as a Brush @ Feb 24 2006, 10:06 AM)membership application is screened against bogus members joining so it may take a while for an application to go through.
I think I tried to register once before, maybe they thought I was bogus
I don't give in easily, so I'll try again.
thanx again for the help,
awrabest, stu

First time up I thought they maybe "rejected" me cos I wasn't a legitimate UK homebrewer, posting from Australia with a .com.au address. I think they must have been spammed quite seriously before.
Seriously though, Andy and Des, how did you open the door?
Did you "click here" at the top of the home page,
Did you "request membership" from the sidebar.
Did you "request membership to this group" from the bottom of the home page
Did you "EMAIL THE LIST MANAGER WITH A BRIEF NOTE ON WHO YOU ARE AND WHY YOU WANT TO JOIN, PUTTING 'UK HOMEBREW GENUINE SUBSCRIBER' IN THE SUBJECT LINE." as it says in the body of the home page?
If so, which email address did you use  ???
All of this, and we still won't know the secret handshake
It's very late where I am

andy, at the risk of sounding stupid :stun or drunk , or both (it is nearly 2am on a Saturday morning where I am)
which of the following email addresses did you send your message to?
Group Email:
uk-homebrew@smartgroups.com
Manager Email:

To Join:
uk-homebrew-subscribe@smartgroups.com
To Leave:

Or did you find a magic alternative? I thought Manager Email was a pretty good fit, but it told me I had to be a member to use that address
