750ml of liquor with 250g of grain is a 3:1 ratio which is fine.
The grain typically absorbs its own weight of liqour = 250ml
So 750ml - 250ml gives 500ml of wort.
But WTF are you doing Reg ?

Well having mostly done extract or partials in the past, (I have done some all grain brews, but I think I had to pay for the materials in groats or goosefat it was so long ago), I've decided to start doing some small gallon batches of all grain agin on the principle that if I do anything at all daft I havn't lost too much in the way of ingredients.

Right, I now have 170g of pale crushed crystal malt mashing in 500ml of water. Strike was 72 degrees and went down to 69 when the malt was added.
The plan is for this to yield 330ml of wort plus the sparge and to boil in a houshold saucepan and to start some Gervin Ale in a 500ml beer bottle.

Final mash temp was 64 degrees. I then strained and sparged using a sieve and boiled in a pan with a pinch of Irish Moss.
Wort now cooling!

Well the 90 minute mash time appears to have been appropriate as I have yeast activity already... half a scahet of Gervin English Ale at around 35 degrees...

Late night labour has it's own reward. I reckon I've already doubled my culture overnight...

Well I have ordered some online, although I am quite keen to get on so may have to waste some of the very little time I have today taking a trip to St Albans... again.
