I used to spend half my working life in Alton, when I worked for Wang Computers. I very nearly moved there.
I suppose you are too young to remember Kerridge's, and their offshoot Kerridge Computers, which was one of Wang's major customers, and is why I spent so much time there.

If the Railway is the pub on the other side of the road to the station, the landlord there gave me a box-load of ex-Watney's advertising memorabilia that was littering his cellar. I've still got a full box of Red Barrel key-rings. I wonder what they'll fetch on e-bay. My washing-up cloth is a Watney's bar towel, and my tea mug is standing on a Watney's "Starlight" beer mat. Rather contradicts my rather traditionalist view of beer doesn't it? considering Watney's was such crap. I've had this stuff for twenty years or more, and I've still got about a thousand beer mats to get through, and about a dozen bar towels. Considering the bar towels have seen duty as car windscreen demisters, car cleaning cloths, floor cloths, dish cloths, everything cloths, they've lasted pretty well.

I've also got quite a few Munton's key-rings. IF I go to the HBS shindig, I'll be able to give them back.

I live about 5 miles from Alton and there's a trading estate near the station named Kerridge Trading Estate. I guess its the original site of Kerridges?

I remember Alton in its heyday as a brewing town with both Bass and Phoenix with large breweries there. Regardless of what approach you took to Alton it was lined either side of the road with fields of hops for what seemed like miles.

Can you put something in the local paper? ... would be a good excuse to lay the equiment out and explain to potential newbies how to mash!

With a bit of luck
we have some nice new Five Star Chemicals on our shelves
starsan, pbw , 5.2,Saniclean, Super moss and a few other Five chemicals
It takes so long to get as it cant be FLOWN over as the airlines refuse to carry it due to the
corrosive nature of the goods.

Unfortunately, this stuff is corrosive.

It can be flown, but these chemicals come under the heading of hazardous chemicals [restricted articles].
They're only allowed in minute quantities on passenger aircraft, even shipped as cargo.

It gets very complicated and expensive..... You get the picture.
