What a bunch of miserable people, all true ambassadors for the hobby of home brewing!
I've only been brewing 18 months and could think of nothing better than a day at the Thornbridge brewery, and am looking forward to brewing something that may appeal to the judges, however slim my chances of winning are.
And the notion that Thornbridge need beer recipes, have you tasted their beers!
I would not blame them if they canceled the competition now after the negativity posted above, cheers Jims Beer Kit!

As I said before I think the winner of the comp has a great opportunity of learning.
As far as feedback and the logistics of giving it, Ali-kocho will be giving out the judging sheets to all involved in the National Competition as far as I know, for the price of some stamps and a bunch of envelopes it wouldn't be that disastrous for Thornbirdge to do the same as the judges should have used some paper-based marking system.
I think we can all be too precious of our creations from time to time, anyone who posts a brewday thread or blog post of their recipe / brewday is essentially giving any brewery who cares to look a FREE recipe already

I think he opportunity to have a beer brewed on a 10BBL would be fantastic. Rather like the pro-ams in the US, this would be an incredible learning experience transferring and scaling up a recipe.
I hardly think they need new 'free' recipes, nor do i think they stand to make much £. As well as some PR for them i genuinely think they are giving something back.
I hope the negative criticism does not dissuade them from holding this again.
Though i do agree with PDTNC, that they must be marking these beers somehow. If people have gone to the effort of brewing, submitting, posting a beer then they should really provide feedback.

Looks like this competition is now officially going ahead, but has been put back to January 31st deadline - even though it says 1st November on the homepage

Hi
Regarding the stout catorgary, would molasses and honey at 8% each be classed as speciality or just a normal stout based on the rules? May be me but doesnt read very clear!

"Competition opens on the 1st November 2012... see web address
All beer entries need to be submitted by 31st January - postal address for entries is.....
Beers to be submitted in 3 500ml bottles.....
Judging
This will take place in February 2013 and be carried out by a panel of practising brewers, beer writers and beer industry experts.
A winner for each category will be selected.
The winning beers will be announced in March 2013...."
Personally I think it's a cracking opportunity for people to have some Pro's evaluate their Ale. Perhaps feedback could be better from the organisers, but as far as I can read in to it, this is only the second year..... did you get your second brew right?
Yes 50 quid prize money is insignificant, but the recognition, that feeling of being in a brewery and knowing it's your recipe..... how much would you pay to have that experience?
I can tell you for now, being in a fully operating Micro Brewery and being asked by the brewer to sample one of their latest recipe's, and then your opinion, is an honour. Has anyone ever been in a position to NAME a commercially brewed Ale? It's something having your own beer labels, but a Pump Clip for the everyday man off the street to walk in and see, in his local or across the country... that would be something else!
Just my personal opinion of course and no reflection on previous opinions.

Hi All
Many thanks for the interest you have shown in the Home Brew Challenge – launched a little later than last year but hopefully be the end of January you will be thinking about submitting some beer. We will try and communicate the results as soon as we can and in a number of ways. We would love to give specific feedback but fear with the number of entries we will get this would be a difficult task - believe me we are still a small brewery and its all hands to the pumps most of the time – and I don’t want to promise what we can’t deliver. We will review this after this year and see what we can do in future - we certainly learnt a lot from last year.
Within a few minutes of making the announcement of the Challenge we had an email from Germany asking to enter and so we said why not – and I know other beers are coming in from the US. It maybe we look at a full international challenge next year – so come on you British Brewers! It has been great to receive the level of interest we have - one example was a member of our staff broke down on the way to the brewery yesterday and the RAC guy that came to help saw the leaflets in the car revealed he was a keen home brewer and went away vowing to enter.
We also have a number of notable beer writers entering this year – many home brewing for the first time and we hope that they will write about their experience. More on this to follow.
