It's a possibility, though I might have to go on some courses in October, so it depends on the timing of those.

Is the Smith's Arms still in business?

Had heard it changed hands since our last meeting there, then having been passed the road end on the Lumley side 3 times in the last week there was no sign out, just wondered.

Yeah, I noticed the reviews mentioned a change in ownership.
Probably would be wise to check it out before arranging a meet there - I might have a drive over for a half next week sometime.
Edit: I didn't make it - new target for recce is next week!

On the precept that anything is better than nothing, I suggest a sort of get together at the next "Meet the Brewer Evening" in FitzGerald's at Green Terrace, Sunderland on Tuesday October 28th.
Yes, it's not a Friday night but it is just five minutes walk from the interchange with bus and Metro services, a little more to the railway station.
Discounted real ale prices start at 7:00 PM, the Brewer's talk starts at 8:00 (Ewan from Three Kings Brewery) and the Fun Quiz at 9:00.
There is usually good opportunity to chat with the brewer. I'll be there regardless.
