Does anyone know if you can pay at the door? A mate of mate who lives in Sutton may be coming but isnt sure. I'd ask Richard but he's not always quick at replying to emails

thanks for the offer of the forms booldawg. i see they've now been put on the website: http://www.cheerswinemakingandbrewing.c ... bfest.html

i had a look at the info but can't see anything about paying on the door but it does say you can enter a beer friday evening and bring it saturday morning so it looks like it wouldn't be a problem for your mate of mate to decide to come last minute.

I'm there (with four beers if the last ones condition up in time... - one entry each of Ordinary, Best, Porter and Russian Imperial Stout :D )

Shall I start the list? (add yourself to it if you want or I'm holding up the flag myself  )

Hey - anyone who went to this.....

Where's the write up? Inquiring minds that couldn't get there want to know!

Did JBK's finest take all the prizes? Who was there, how was the beer, where did you go for Indian afterwards....etc, etc...

I know one of us 'Scarer' won an award. She's done that before  fantastic beer - well done.

Going through the list of beers, it's amazing how many of the awards I can't remember... oops. I did definitely meet Scarer, BeerBloke, Marmite and Spearmint Wino - great to meet you all! 8) (Plus that Times reporter too who had entered a beer brewed with the iBrew thingy as part of an article he's writing on homebrewing. And his photographer... )

Of course, it all wasn't helped by the slight shock of getting awarded a first in Bitters under 1040, and a second in milds, porter & stouts (or stoats as per the festival list... )  So here's what SWMBO and I reckon - fill in the gaps or correct me where wrong!! (I'm sure the full list will be in Brewers Contact soon).

* Overall Champion Beer - Andy Hill, Festival Mild (1036)

* Bitter under 1040 winner - some dodgy bloke called Graeme :pink: (Windrush Bitter, 1034) ; runner up - Scarer (Robbie the Elder, 1039).
* I think a chap called Nick Reese won two awards - we think first in the speciality category for his beer "Old" (1054), and possibly a second in Best Bitters?
* Milds, Porter and Stout: Winner: Andy Hill (Festival Mild, 1036); runner-up: that dodgy Graeme bloke again  (Mad Boris RIS, 1090).
* Fairly sure Phil (BeerBloke) won some awards too, but for the life of me couldn't tell you which ones!

Unsure on the rest of them - mostly due to being a bit surprised at winning the first category!

After the event, I think a few went back into Sutton to carry on - I went back to my parents where I was staying and got a bit tipsy on some more beer with my dad

Thanks for that Graeme and well done on the awards. Its a good testament to your brewing, bearing in mind the amount of quality beers that were there. I tried some of your Mad Boris. Remarkably smooth for such a high OG. It went down well with me and me two non-brewer mates I'd brought along. Other beers that I recall are Sara's Robbie The Elder and Siholtyes 'Yellowbelly'.

Some fantastic beers there again. Still a bigger venue is needed, it was even more cramped than last year!

Thanks - glad you liked old Boris - I'll make him again soon I think!

You're right - there were lots of good beers there (but I tried so many, they almost all blur into one! I need to take a pen with me next time to write some notes  ). You're right about the venue as well - putting all the beer into one room didn't really work as everyone wants to be within touching distance of their next beer!

Planned to go but didn't quite make it
So if it was more cramped than last year with 70+ ales - how many were on show this time?

Richard could always up the venue size and go for hiring Crystal Palace next year
Must plan brews several months in advance to ensure the're ready.

=D> =D> =D> to all those winners on Jims
Check out the beers we have for sale @ Mix Brewery
