Bristol does have a decent zoo if she fancies that rather than hanging around, and there's a city farm near to one of the likely venues with a good cafe and a pub. There are other things to do in Bristol as well....

Bristol ;)

At the moment I still have several potential venues that it might fit the bill, and am waiting to hear back on some things.

I will update the website and let people know when I have it confirmed. One of the issues is waiting to hear on whether anyone is prepared to offer any seminars, and that has a major impact on venue choice (space and cost).

Really looking forward to the event, I'm just glad that I don't smoke then and my missus isn't coming. Hopefully we'll learn some stuff from stewarding.

Learning is all part of it.

I can now confirm that the venue for the National will be The Annexe at St Werburghs Community Centre. We have the space booked provisionally from 8am til 10pm. Setup from 8, judging will begin at 9.30am. Lunch for Judges, Stewards and staff around noon. Awards and social from 4pmish.

The space will be divided into two during judging (soundproof divider). One space will be where judging takes place (entry only to judges, stewards and competition staff), and the other will be a hang-out zone with a homebrew stocked 'bar' (kegs or bottles) and stalls run by sponsors. Beer will not be paid for, but may ONLY be consumed in 'festival' glasses (kindly sponsored by the Malt Miller). All competition entrants, judges, stewards and staff will be provided with glasses on the day. Additional glasses (for guests etc) may be purchased on the day. It is anticipated that there will be food available on the day.

Map here: http://g.co/maps/juhfr

A short distance from 3 of Bristol's microbreweries, a 7 minute walk from Stapleton Road Station (6 minutes from Temple Meads), 30 minute walk from Bristol Temple Meads, just of the M32 (street parking), served by bus routes 5 and 25. Three decent local pubs, nearby cafes, park and even a city farm and a short walk to the main shopping centre, hotels etc, useful if you want to do something else in Bristol or if you're bringing people not so interested in beer!

Over 50 people have already registered on the site, people have already entered beer, and there are some great pro-brewers coming to help with judging! Stay tuned for what looks set to be an awesome competition with some staggering prizes, great beer and great people!

Nice one, now to try a book a hotel or something, google maps has got all sorts of random stuff that has nothing to do with Hotels or B&B's!

Hotels - there's several nearby:
Premier Inn and Holiday Inn at St James Barton
Future Inn on Bond Street (opposite Cabot Circus)

It's not a big city though....

I wouldn't recommend the Travelodge. I stayed there once a few years back and it was dreadful...

I would like to volunteer as a steward. It seems like a great opportunity to learn as well as help out this great event. I presume there are no problems with being a steward and entering the competition. (sorry if this was mentioned already in the thread.).

Cheers!

Jim

Stewards may enter, but will not be assigned to categories they have entries in. To help me out with organizing, could people who want to steward register on the event website please.
