The 2008 South Shields Beer Festival
The 2nd South Shields Beer Festival organised by the Sunderland & South Tyneside Branch of CAMRA, the Campaign for Real Ale is almost upon us.
The festival runs from 14 to 16 August at the Masonic Hall, Ingham Street South Shields. This is just off Ocean Road, next to ASDA and a short walk from the bus and Metro Stations. We have put together a selection of 26 cask ales from small breweries from as far afield as Cambridgeshire and Lanarkshire. The range includes dark milds, bitters, porters, wheat beers and strong India Pale Ales.
Our local brewers, Jarrow and Bull Lane will be represented and we are pleased to have locally brewed Double Maxim and Samson following their return to Wearside last year. Sunderland- based Bull Lane will also be launching two new beers at the festival including an unhopped lemon and ginger beer. We will also have beers from 2 new breweries, Ironbridge in Shropshire and Yard of Ale from Ferryhill in County Durham.
There will also be a traditional cider and perry.
The festival is run entirely by unpaid CAMRA volunteers.
Admission at all sessions is free to CAMRA and EBCU members and will cost non- members £2. A souvenir glass will be for sale or hire.
Our opening hours will be:
Thursday: 4.00 pm to 10.00 pm
Friday: 12.00 pm to 10.00 pm
Saturday: 12.00 pm to 10.00 pm
We hope to see as many of you there as possible.
