I am sure this is going to be brilliant event. There are brewery tours, trade stands and of course the competition.

As I am going I am going to enter a beer, not sure what yet and probably don't stand a chance but will be good fun anyway

We could arrange a "Jim's" meet up if people are interested??

I am going to need to stay overnight so if anyone has any recommendations of accommodation near the copper dragon brewery I would appreciate it.

I'm staying at the Guest 'Otel in the centre of Skipton. There's places nearer but it looked OK.

I am going as part of the MCBA. We did the selection for the midlands beer a couple of weeks back. Im just brewing loads at the moment to enter a few.

I'd say I'd be going but I'm not sure, its our Beer Fest at Saltaire the Friday & Saturday. I should try and go, nothing particular to enter in the comp though.
If I don't make it to Skipton, feel free to hop on the train over to the Beer Fest

Time is counting down, and for those that would like to enter beers in this years CBA Competition you need to get brewing, but more importantly you need to get you entry forms and fees in

Downloadable Entry Forms and Details can be found on the CBA website.

Basically 6 500ml/1 Pint bottles (any type as long as it is brown) with plain (preferably gold) crown caps, one bottle unlabelled, for judging, the others can be labelled, for each entry . . . alternatively you can supply beer in cornelii. . . . Question has been raised as to why 6 bottles . . . well 1 for the judge for the class, 1 for the best overall beer, and the rest for those that attend the beer festival after the judging . . . Which gives everyone the chance to decide if the judges are right, and to select the peoples choice.

(This is also the format of the Sutton Comp as well, and was the same for Derby).

Remember that you can send beers from the 1st of September and places like Parcels2Go offer courier rates much cheaper than our friends in Royal Mail/Parcel Farce. . . . Your beer will go into the cool room at the Copper Dragon brewery so will be stored correctly (Mark your parcel which way up so that they do get stored upright)

Not going to enter anything this year but defo interested for next.
Just one small question about entering beers, noticed the gravity levels/alcohol content next to beer catagories and just a little unsure about what it means.
Is it abv or og they mean? For example: Pale/Best Bitter is 1041-1050. Does that mean between 4.1-5% ABV? Or is it og?

I read it as OG.

I'm waiting until after this weekend before filling in my forms. We've got the Cambridge meeting this weekend and we're deciding on the interregional entry. If mine wins that then I won't enter it into another class. If it doesn't win then I'll have to decide on IPA or speciality beers. It's an American IPA but my guess is that UK style IPAs are expected in the IPA category so I'm thinking speciality would be better?

Im getting mine sent up in the next couple of weeks. 3 in total including a lovely young tasting belgian Tripel....should be a great day

There was a bit of discussion about the classes in our group too. For the inter-regional, "Pale Ale" was felt by some to be a little "broad" for the class description (Belgian pale? US Pale? British Pale? India Pale? There was even a suggestion that someone might brew an unhopped gruit style pale ale...). Not even sure if we ever managed to choose a one to send in the end

At Sutton, the "Colonial" class (India/America) was a great way out of this

Must decide what I am entering, and then actually enter...

If I get round to it I might have two American Pale Ale's to enter... but I probably won't get round to it!

Just out of interest what is the inter-regional Pale Ale?
Saw it on the competition entry details but wasn't sure what it meant.
Can anyone enter one or is it a single entry from a region via a local brewing club or whatever?
Just a little clarity on this would be most helpful.

Its the entry from each regional CBA group. We did our judging back at the begining of July (Midlands)

I have two Hoppy Pale-ish brews at 1052, intended to be in American Pale Ale / IPA territory... http://pdtnc.wordpress.com (most recent two posts)
Would I enter them in the 'Strong Ale' category, the 'IPA' or the 'Speciality'? Hmmm
I'm swaying away from the IPA as its my beers aren't in the traditional sense an India Pale Ale.

I would probably go with Strong Ale. I think you'd be more likely to expect cascade-y beers there than in IPA.
