I'm delighted to be able to announce that Glasgow Beer Week will be taking place for the first time at the end of May.
Glasgow Beer Week is a ground-breaking series of events which brings brewers, drinkers and chefs together to appreciate good beer. It spans the spheres of pub culture, gastronomy, art and homebrewing and is unique in the UK.
Brewers, publicans, restaurateurs, home brewers and drinkers are hard at work putting together a programme of enjoyable and educational events. There will be lots of fun and a pretty special offering of beers during Beer Week.
The Beer Week format is well established in the USA in places as renowned for beer as San Diego (sdbw.org), Philadelphia (www.phillybeerweek.org) and San Francisco (sfbeerweek.org).
Brewers such as Kelburn, Fyne, Tryst, BrewDog, WEST and others will be taking part. Some of the things being planned are:
- Live homebrewing demonstration with members of Scottish Craft Brewers
- Brewery tour
- WEST brewery is producing a one-off Beer Week beer
- Meet the brewer night(s)
- a leading restaurant will be serving India Pale Ale to diners with their curry, interspersed with snippets about the history of this legendary style of beer
- a Pop Up Pub beers made by local homebrewers - these beers are not available in any shops!
- Peckham's are running one of their in-store beer festivals with tasters of their range of beers
- Sisters will be brewing it for themselves at a women-only beer tasting
- Top south side deli Gusto & Relish is making some very special beer sausages and putting on a beer-themed supper club
- Award winning bakery Tapa is making some beer bread
