Wishbone Brewery Homebrew Competition

Post by WishboneBrewery » Mon May 02, 2016 5:57 pm

I'll update this as we get an idea how many people are interested and as we plan more
  • Location - Wishbone Brewery Limited - 2A Chesham St, Keighley, BD21 4LG
  • Date - Saturday 20th August 2016
  • Opening Time - Doors open from 11.00, Bar open from 12.00, Judging from 13.00, Kicking you all out no later than 18.00
  • Homebrew Competition - Euro/British IPA up to 7% (NO American / New Zealand / Australian hops)
  • Entries in 3x brown glass bottles with no markings to be brought to the brewery on the day, please email competition@wishbonebrewery.co.uk with your name & contact number and what hops your beer uses. *The idea of this comp is to bring your bottle entry on the day, however someone has asked if they can drop them off the week before as they can't attend on the 20th. With this being a Charity Event we will take a £5 donation from anyone not attending with their beer.*
  • Homebrewed Bar for Charity (Like we did at the excellent Saltaire Brewery Competitions)
  • We have 5 handpulls on our brewery bar, we will give 1 beer for charity, we will need 4 homebrewers to fill a 20Litre Bag-in-Box (9G Firkin fill if possible) each to serve on the other 4 pumps
  • Crisp Maltings presentation from Carl their Craft Brewing rep, working on Rob from Lallemand but unconfirmed, maybe see what else i can arrange.
  • Getting here - Keighley railway station is 6 mins walk away which in turn is 20mins from Leeds on the train
  • You get to have a proper look around our brewery (We will hopefully have a Keg bar up and running by August so hope to have a range of keg beers to try, though not for Charity.
  • Food - There are plenty of good curry houses and take-aways in Keighley, bring your own or order in a Take-away.
  • Places to stay - There is a Travelodge about 10mins walk away https://www.travelodge.co.uk/hotels/463/Keighley-hotel
Cheers :) http://www.wishbonebrewery.co.uk

I'm in obviously :) only suggestion would be a lower abv only because as those that have been too similar previous events we end up drinking each other's bottles in the afternoon and for me the night time festivities are well worth staying awake for :)

We can change the style, how about Brew your best European-Hopped IPA. Entries with American or Antiopodean hops will be drained poured ;-)

Oh great... I've just brewed a beer with (aussy) Vic Secret and 2 types of American hop, which is looking good! It has got Admiral in it too though, and bittered with Magnum...

As mentioned on the other thread....I will definitely enter and provide a poly pin for you :)
If it's only half as good as the Saltaire do, it will be a great day.

I can't do the 27th either!
Maybe we could share a taxi or at least help each other get home :)

We could look at the 20th August maybe, our limiting factors are our regular bar events http://www.wishbonebrewery.co.uk/events/ I'll check with the Boss (Wife).

Have you borne in mind a lot of people may be away, it being summer holidays etc? At least for attending if not submitting entries

You ever seen Planes, Trains and Automobiles starring Steve Martin?

Sounds like a plan.

On previous events we have taken into account Easter and avoided it by 1 week, Easter has passed for 2016 and there is always a need to give people the time to brew their beers.

As you can see http://www.wishbonebrewery.co.uk/events/ we have restrictions, a life outside of brewing, appreciate our free time on weekends.
We are not going to put a homebrew event on the day after one of our Friday bar days, the Saturday bar day is oviously out of the question so that leaves roughly the last couple of Saturdays per month.

If we ask everyone that is likely to come for a date we will be hear until next Easter :) plus we are obviously only getting a really tiny sample of people via JBK so not seeing the wider picture.

If its too much fuss this year we will have to plan for 2017.

Post your Preferred date and that of those that you know would come.
