This will be AG#4 for me. Still learning as I go and trying batch sparging for the first time.
5805g Pale Malt
305g Crystal Malt
Mash: 120min @ 66deg
Boil: 120min
57g Target (8%) 120 mins
5g Styrian Goldings (4.1%) 15 mins
whirlifloc 10 mins
Aiming for 23l@1054og
Not tried this one before - from Marc Ollosson's RAFTHB

Decided to have a crack at batch sparging and upped the grain by 10% as suggested. All was going well until I got the boil started and realised I hadn't fitted the hop strainer
Had to stop the boil, quickly sanitise a collection vessel, empty the boiler and start again. Any time I saved on the sparge has now been lost but, never mind. We live and learn.
I'll put up some pics when I'm done.

Here's the pics then. Aside from the hop strainer, all went well (other than the fact my brew was running behind, my wife came home early from work and wasn't impressed with the state of the kitchen).
Anyhow, it all got cleaned up and I mopped the floor today as she was complaining this morning that her feet were sticking to it. Perhaps I should rename this brew sticky slippers
Mash

Collecting the wort

Boil on (but no hop strainer)

OG 1059

Sweet wort

Yest head

A couple of things to note from this brew (my fourth AG).
1. I collected far more wort from the mash than ever before so had plenty to top up with during the boil. I presume this is down to the batch sparge, suggesting my attempt at fly sparging was pretty crap.
2. I added 10% more grain than the original recipe which was for 23l@ 1054 og. I ended up with 24l@1059
3. The wort is by far the clearest I have achieved after boiling. I guess the Whirlfloc did its thing (only the second time I've used - tried for 15mins this time rather than 10).
All in all, I'm pretty pleased with this one. Shame it's going to take so long to mature at a possible 5.8%
