Extract Brewnight

Post by tomU » Sat May 24, 2008 10:39 pm

Decided pretty late this evening to get a brew on the go. I've been waiting all week for some malt to arrive and it still hasnt, so its not going to be here til Tuesday now  , so my 1st all-grain is going to have to wait - its an extract IPA on the go now.

Apologies for the pretty poor pics...

Steeped - 200g carapils, 50g crystal:

Then added 3kg LME, followed by 25g Worcester Goldings + 25g Cascade

Boiling away:

This is going to be a pretty long night...

A long night, but hell. It's going to be good too.
I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that all goes to plan :)

cheers guys,

its now cooling in a bath full of cold water - thats going to take a while. Next on my shopping list - a wort cooler...

With 10 mins to go added 10g cascade, then steeped with another 10g cascade and 10g styrian. I've rehydrated my yeast - muntons premium gold. Should be pitching around 2am...

all done...

Took a sample of the cooled wort - SG 1040 - so not an IPA then  . I've made my usual mistake of using an American recipe and not converting US 'gallons' into actual gallons  . Its probably going to be overhopped for the lighter beer I've ended up making, although I only went for 35 IBUs with the kettle hops so it shouldnt be unpalatable. It shouldnt be too far off a bitter and twisted-esque beer with all the cascade and styrians so I'm looking forward to this one (even if its not exactly what I had planned).

Right, I've got about half an hours cleaning to do then bed :out
