The boiler/HLT is on for my first full size AG brew.
As the title says a variation on the Townes Recipe. I am going to use Golden Promise rather than MO and maybe a few extra late hops. Hopefully it will come out something like Rooster's Yankee
Last month I called at H&G and picked up 17kg of malts so this will be the first of several as I have 3 cornies to fill.
25ltr
5.3kg GP malt
0.2kg Wheat malt
75g Cascade 60 min
15g Cascade 15 min
25g Cascade Flame out
12/6 Brew on - a variation on Townes IPA
Make a note for next time. It is better to err or the high side so that you can adjust with cold water. I tend to heat the mash tun up first by pouring a kettle of boiling water in and sealing for around 5 minutes. Even then I would still be looking to strike at around 74 or 75.Chris B wrote:I have just doughed in the mash but the grain must have been a bit cool as the strike temp was 73 and it has dropped to 62 so the kettle is boiling to add a little to up the mash temp!
Hope you get things sorted out without too many problems and have a good day.
Hope it's going well, I'm looking forward to those pictures.
FWIW I did a brew myself today, I added 2 kettles full of boiling water to the mash tun & let it pre-heat for 15 mins then drained & added the mash liquor at a temp. of about 78°C, this gave me a 66° mash temp
No doubt once you've got a few AG's under your belt you'll soon know what temps. you need for your system.
Enjoy the rest of the brew day
