Clotworthy Dobbin 30-5-08
Good luck with this one, Delboy - will be interested to hear how it goes. I've had a bash at this as well (link) - I'll definitely try the caramilisation next time if it works well for you.

Well this one ended up down the drain
, it tasted nice to start with and i had high hopes but it deteriorated quite quickly until it tasted funky and unpleasant.
I've been complaining about a few bad batches lately (a london pride, a wit and now a clotworthy dobbin). They all had in common a haze that wouldn't clear and a slightly funky taste that seemed to get worse from batch to batch.
i had orginally blamed a rusting steel splatter guard that also caused corrision of the hop strainer for some sort of metal based haze and off flavour. But some of the brews i did around the same time (barley wine and SS) are perfectly fine.
Finally had a euraka moment and realised that the other thing the dodgy batches all had in common was that they had all been fermented in the same fermenter (previously used for strawberry wine, don't know if the wine had anything to do with it though).
Clotworthy dobbin down the sink, really good clean in oxyclean to remove any orgainic matter then steeped overnight in bleach solution 1Litre in 50 Litres of water.
I'll risk a small batch in it some time and if it comes out not right in anyway i'll convert it into a big mash tun or something else useful.
